said Daniel Curtis by his Petition alleged that he attended the Court upwards of two years,
during which, he was never called upon, but once when he informed the Attorney General that
he was ready for trial, that afterwards he removed from town and not being able to attend when
his Recognizances were called, they became forfeited and Executions have issued against him
for the recovery thereof, which, if he should be compelled to pay, must reduce a large family to
ruin. And five of the Justices of the Criminal Court having recommended him as an Object of
Compassion, the Board in Consideration of his indigent Circumstances and inability to pay the
forfeiture aforesaid, do order and direct that of the two forfeited Recognizances above men-
tioned amounting to Sixty pounds, fifty seven pounds be, and the same is hereby remitted.

Ordered that the following Notice be published in the Annapolis and Baltimore News
Papers, and continued Six Weeks.

In Council February 24th. 1789

Whereas by a report made by the treasurer of the western shore to this Board, it appears
that several of the County Clerks have neglected to make regular returns of Ordinary and
Marriage licences, licences to retailers of spiritous liquors, licences to sell liquor at horse races,
and Hawkers and Pedlers licences granted, and of fines and forfeitures, forfeited Recognizances,
and Amerciaments accruing in their respective Counties, and also that several of the Sheriffs
and other Officers have neglected to make annual payment of the public Money collected by
them on the above mentioned Accounts, whereby the Revenue of the State is greatly injured.
Notice [p. 39] is hereby given that it is determined by this Board to take effective
steps for compelling a compliance with the Law in the before mentioned respects to which all
persons concerned as well on the Eastern as on the Western shore are desired to pay attention.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Colo. John H. Stone forty two pounds,
three shillings and nine pence for three months half pay due him the ist. instant.
