Monday 23. February 1789

The Council met.

Present the Hon'ble James Brice

Ordered that the western shore treasurer pay to Joseph Clark thirteen pounds, one shilling
to enable him to settle Simon Retalick's account for work at the Government House examined
by the Auditor General, and to be by the said Clark accounted for.

That the said Treasurer pay to Simon Retalick six pounds and four pence due him for
work in repairing the Government house per account passed by the Auditor General.

His Excellency John Eager Howard Esquire attended.

The Petition of John Lynch of Baltimore town praying a remission of fines imposed on
him by the Court of Oyer and Terminer Baltimore County at their January term last amount-
ing to four pounds for assaulting Matthew Taylor, was read and rejected.

The Council adjourned the tomorrow morning.

Tuesday 24. February 1789

In Council February 24. 1789

Whereas Daniel Curtis of Baltimore County was at a criminal court for said County in
January term seventeen hundred and eighty three presented in two several presentments; first
that he as keeper of the public goal of said County did not order a sufficient quantity of meat for
the prisoners in his custody according to their number, and second, that he suffered the Ordure
of the Prisoners to be emptied in places offensive to the inhabitants in the neighbourhood of
said goal, to which [p. 38] Presentments the said Daniel Curtis at May term following
appeared, and it was ordered that on each, he should recognize in the sum of thirty pounds for
his appearance at the then next Court to answer the same, which Recognizances were respited
from term to term till January seventeen hundred and eighty eight, when the said Daniel Curtis
was called upon and did not appear, upon which, the said Recognizances were forfeited. The
