Journal of the State Council, 1784-1789. 149

On Friday following the first Day of December in the same Year
the General Assembly proceeded to the Choice of the Council to the
Governor when Jeremiah Townley Chase, James Brice, James Hind-
man, John Kilty and John Davidson were elected.

Saturday 2d. December 1786

James Hindman, John Kilty and John Davidson Esquires elected
Members of the Council, appeared in the Council Room, and severally
qualified before Alien Quynn Esquire One of the Justices of Anne
Arundel County by taking the several Oaths required by the Consti-
tution and Form of Government and Laws of this State, and by
making, and subscribing a Declaration of their Belief in the Christian
Religion, Certificates thereof produced and filed.

The Council adjourned 'till Monday Morning 11 o'clock.

Monday 4th. December 1786

The Council met.

Present His Excellency William Smallwood Esquire.

The Honorable James Hindman

John Kilty

John Davidson Esquires.

Ordered That the Western Shore Treasurer pay to Joseph Clark
Thirty pounds on the order of Colo. Joseph Dashiell in favor of
Captain John Pope Mitchell, it being on Account of Shingles fur-
nished by said Dashiell for the Stadt House on Account.

Mr. Jubb Fowler appointed Messenger.

The Council adjourned 'till tomorrow morning 11 o'clock.

The Council met.

John Davidson Esquires.

Jeremiah Townley Chase Esquire elected a Member of the Council
appeared, and qualified before Alien Quynn Esquire One of the
Justices of Anne Arundel County, by taking, repeating and subscrib-
ing the several Oaths required by the Constitution and Form of
Government and Laws of this State, and by making repeating and
subscribing a Declaration of his Belief in the Christian Religion
Certificate thereof filed.

Commission issued to John Dickinson, John Smoot, Edward Noel,
Thomas Jones, Benjamin Keene, Henry Leeke, James Shaw, Joseph
