100 Journal and Correspondence.

March 13
Liber No. 78
p. 332

[Council to Messrs Thomas Bond, William Kilgour & John DeButts.]
We are favored with yours of the 12th Ulto and regret that our
late Arrangement of the Orphan's Court in St Mary's, has been the
Source of so much Uneasiness. In Justice however, to your Repre-
sentatives, it is incumbent on us to assure you that they did not inter-
fere, farther than recommend who should fill up the Vacancies. Our
only Reason for naming first on the List, the two new Appointments,
was, because they were senior Magistrates in the County Court. We
have adopted the same Rule in other Counties, and we believe, in
the General, it is more proper and less offensive than any other,
especially as the Orphan's Court must be composed of County Magis-
trates. Should it be inconsistent with your Feelings to continue to
act under these Circumstances, we shall lament the Loss to the Court,
of Gentlemen so well qualified for the Business; but we cannot, with
any Propriety, or conformably to our constant Practice, make any
Alteration.

[Council to Capt. Daniel Bryan.]

The Plater is wanted immediately, to carry Commodore Grason
to Miles River. As soon as you return, let us know it, as we shall
want the Boat for another Service.

Ibid.

[Council to Mr John Crisall.]

Doctor Murray is in Want of Tea and many other Articles that
will be necessary for the Soldiers he is about to inoculate. We must
request you to provide such Things as he may direct, which we will
enable you to pay for, out of the first Money that comes into the
Treasury
