[Council to Daniel Hughes, Esqr.]

We have in our Possession a Captain Charles Whitehead, who was
captured in the Active Privateer by the Sloop Porpus, and have
agreed to exchange him for Captain John Harrison a Subject of our
State now in confinement in New York. That this Exchange may be
effected without Delay, we have sent Capt. Whitehead under Guard
to you and request that the Commissary General of Prisoners in
New York may be apprised of our Resolution immediately and

requested if such Exchange is approved by him that Capt. Harrison ;
may be sent with a Flag to the Lines where Capt. Whitehead shall
be delivered for him. If this is not the accustomed Mode of bringing
about an Exchange of Prisoners we wish the proper one to be pur-
sued by you. We also desire that Paul Busey, Thomas Sellman,
Samuel Cowman, John Burns, Martin Shields Benjamin Owens,
Henry Owens and Jonathan Waters Subjects of this State taken in
the Sloop Lincoln and carried into New York and there confined,
may be exchanged for Daniel Hawood, Edward Dyer, James Forster,
William Hand, James Locory, John Drishell Andrew Alien taken in
the Active and William Fallott belonging to the Suky whom we send
under Guard with Captain Whitehead.

Thursday 18th January 1781

Commission issued to John H. Beanes appointed Major of the
Lower Battalion of Militia in Prince Georges Country.
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer pay to Edward Gaither
Two pounds, ten shillings of the new Emission in lieu of one hundred
pounds per Account passed by the Audr General.
That the said Treasurer pay to Colo Edward Tillard, Lieutt James
Winchester and Lieut Rezin Davis, each nineteen pounds, four shil-
lings and nine pence of the same Emission in lieu of seven hundred
and sixty nine pounds, ten shillings due them per Accts passed by
the Aud. Genl and also the further Sum of fifty Pounds, each of the
same Emission on Account according to a Resolution of the General
Assembly.
That the said Treasurer pay to Capt. Thomas Luckett of Raw-
lings's late Regimt fifty pounds of the same Emission agreeable to
the above mentioned resolution on Account.

That the said Treasurer pay to Charles Williamson Esqr forty
three pounds fifteen shillings of the new Emission in lieu of one
thousand seven hundred and fifty pounds to be delivered over to
Thomas Jones due him per Account passed by the Aud. General.
Ordered That the western shore Treasurer pay to Levin Wailes
thirteen thousand pounds Continental and one hundred pounds of
the new Emission to be delivered over to William McBryde Pur-
chasing Commissary of Somerset County on Acct.
