respective Sherriffs of this Province to publish this my Proc-
lamation in the most usual and frequented places of their
Several Balywicks. Given at the City of Annapolis the gth
day of October in the thirteenth year of the Reign of our
Sovereign Lady the Queen &c Annoq Domini 1714
Lt Col Ward & five more brought up the following mes-
sage Viz
By the House of Delegates
October the 9th 1714

This House having taken into Consideration the deplora-
ble Condition of the Inhabitants of this Province who made
little Tobo this year That being their only Staple & Fund to
raise mony for discharge as well of the publick Levys as their
private Debts and being willing to relieve them in their pres-
ent Exigency and prevent the Imprisonmt of her Majesty's
good Subjects of this her Province do propose the inserting a
Clause in the Bill for apportioning the publick Levy this year

that no Executions shall from the End of this Sessions to the
tenth day of November 1715 issue against the Body of any
the Inhabitants of this Province
Signed p Order Thos Macnemara Cl Ho Del.

Which being read & Considered, and debated whither It
be reasonable this Board should concur with the House of
Delegates proposal Resolved nemine Contradicente that the
same is against the Current of the Law and would introduce
great Confusion & mischief so that tho his Excellency the
Governour and Every Member of this Board are heartily
desirous to Ease & favour the honest well meaning sort of
People by giving their particular directions to the respective
Sherriffs Yet they cannot consent to such a Law without the
manifest Violation of the Trust & Duty in them reposed in
Enacting a Law repugnant to the Laws of England as well
as this Province
Ordered the foregoing Resolution be communicated to the
House by Col Holland & Col Young who went & returned
& say they delivered their Message
Advised that this General Assembly be prorogued for one
month, And when his Excellcy has Judicial notice of her
Majestys Demise They be dissolved by Proclamation
The Board adjourned for an Hour
