left at Magruders for you, we expect Mr Magruder will deliver
you, according to our Letter to him, a Load of barrelled
Fish, which you will take in and proceed with to Charles
Town with all Expedition and deliver to Mr Patrick Hamilton,
taking his Receipt.
William Middleton

[Council to Messrs. Smith.]

In Council Annapolis 18th May 1778.
Gent
We are very desirous of having up our Part of the Linens
imported in the Brigantine Lively, by Captains Walker and
Gordon. We have wrote to Mr Charles Howard of this Place,
who we believe is in your Parts or if not, to Colo Stewart of
Somerset, to divide the Goods and receive ours from you
agreeable to the Invoice Letter and Order of Mr Morris &
Messrs J. M. Nesbitt & Co. which we have sent down. We
understand that the Invoice is of the Goods only which belong
to Messrs Nesbitt & Co. and that Mr Morris has about a like
Quantity of the same kind of Goods, and that we are to
have one fourth of the Whole. The Linens of the same
Species differing in many Instances in Price and we suppose
in Quality, we request that great Attention may be had to
distinguish as far as can be in the Invoice of those we receive
which Pieces they are.
We are &ca
Messrs Isaac & Thorowgood Smith
Merchts Onancock.

[Council to R. Harrison.]

In Council Annapolis 18th May 1778.

go again in this Vessel and her Distance from us, put us under

something into your Hands, we knew, would prompt his Exer-
tions; we inclose you a Copy of his Letter, which shews his good
Opinion of Deshon and the Contract he made with him. The
Genl Smallwood, we expect, will sail with Tobacco & Flower
about the same Time as the Molly. The Difficulty and great
Expence of procuring Cargoes at the Inlets makes it desirable
these Vessels should come into the Bay, and we have Expect-
ations if, as probable, there should be a French War the
