The Governor & Council have sold the State Boat Amelia
to Mr Charles Wallace Howard for Nine hundred Pounds
together with her Sails and Rigging

Friday 31 July 1778

Present as on yesterday.
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer Pay to William
Middleton twenty Pounds per Accr passed by the Prinl Cl. to
the Aud. Genl and also Forty Pounds to be delivered over to
Capt. John Pitt per Acct passed by A. G.
That the said Treasurer Pay to Colo Alexander Anderson
Three hundred and Thirty nine Pounds, Seventeen shillings
and seven Pence Balance of Acct passed by the Aud. Genl
That the said Treasurer Pay to Joseph Cowman Junr eighty
two Pounds ten shillings per Acct passed by the Aud Genl
That the said Treasurer Pay to Nathaniel Potter Esquire
four hundred and seventy seven Pounds, seventeen shillings
and ten Pence, four hundred and sixty two Pounds nine
shillings and nine Pence due himself for the Purchase of Pro-
visions and the further sum of four Pounds ten shillings for
the use of James Laurence as per Accts passed by the Aud
Genl
That the said Treasurer Pay to Henry Leigh Massey ninty
four Pounds, eleven shillings and four Pence for Wages due
himself and the Crew of the Amelia per Acct passed by the
Aud Genl
That the said Treasurer Pay to Nathaniel Potter Esq. one
thousand & thirty six Pounds and four Pence to enable him
to Pay the Additional Price on the Provisions Purchased for
the Continent in Caroline County as regulated by the Gov-
ernor and Council of which Acct to be rendered

Sir,
We shall be obliged to you to endeavour to sell the Ship
Defence for not less than nine thousand Pounds, we would
wish to Part from her with Appearel &ca agreeable to the In-
ventory formerly made, but that Inventory is mislaid so that
we do not know whether it can now be ascertained therefore
we would have the Contract made for what went up in the
Ship & including the sails with which she was carried to Bal-
timore a Suit for a Merchantman to be made up out of those
here which belonged to her. We design six and only six of
her Guns, with what belongs to them to go with her as per-
taining to the Ship. If the Purchaser should want more of
