behalfe of the Right honble the Lord Baltemor Lord and Propry
of Maryland and all his Maties Subjects of Virginia and Mary-
land, and being informed from his Majestys subjects of this
Governmt that you have behaved yor selves very Civilly, and
that you have putt yor selves under our great kings protec-
tion, Wee are come from my Lord Baltemor Lord and Propry
of Maryland under our great King and for all his Majestys
subjects of Virginia and Maryland, and all Indians in peace
with us, and more Especially the Piscattaway Indians to see
you and speake with you: And wee say that wee have heard
that some of yor Indians, have beene with the Maquess in our
Country fighting against some of our freind Indians (which
wee take very ill from you, it being contrary to the promise of
the greate men of the Maekanders to Coll Coursey when he
gave them prsents here five yeares since. And therefore
come to tell the Makanders the Warrenock and the Cattskill
Indians that they come noe more into Maryland or Virginia to
disturbe any of the Kings Subjects there or the Piscattaway
Indians or any other Indians in peace with us and our greate
Governors will at this time forgett and forgive what is past nor
joyne themselves with any nation under any ptence whatso-
ever to make warr vpon vs or any Indians in peace with us.
All these things being observed, wee will owne and esteeme
you our very good ffreinds (if not you must Expect wee shall
make warr vpon you:

Answere of the Mahikanders and Cattkills Indians vp. the
proposicon of Philemon Lloyd & Coll Henry Coursey agents
of the Rt honble the Lord Baltemore Lord and Propry of Mary-
land, and all his Majestyes Subjects of Virginia and Maryland
in the Court house of Albany the nineteenth day of July An'
1682:
Doe say That they doe thanke the Gentn the Agents oi
Maryland for their prsents and that they have esteemed them
worthy to propose unto them, and doe lett them knowe, thai
they are very small and a little people and shall never doe an>
harme to the Christians of Virginia and Maryland, nor to the
Indians liveing in freindship with them, and shall never joyne
with any Indians to doe them any hurt or prjudice, For they are
necessitate to hide themselves or lurke under this Govern-
ment, and shall answere further vpon the propositions tc
morrow.
The Esopus Indians
Say that they Confirme that which the Mahikanders & Catts
kills Indians have now sayd, and that they are alsoe few and i
