Ordered That Western shore Treasurer pay to Beriah May-
bury seven Pounds & six Pence for Boat Hire.
Ordered That said Treasurer, pay to Ezekiel Towson twenty
Pounds, to be accounted for.
The Council of Safety agree with Ezekiel Towson to be
Captain of a Guard for a Magazine in Baltimore County, he
engaging to hire twelve men not exceeding forty five shillings
pr man, and Captains Pay for himself, & to draw rations.
Ordered That commissary of Stores deliver to Ben' Edward
Hall three hundred yards of course Linen for Tenting, also
cartouch Boxes, Priming Wires & Brushes & Knapsacks with
Havresacks, also 15 Camp-Kettles for Captn Holland's Compy.
Adjourned 'till next Day 10 o'Clock.

Philada October 4th 1776.
Esteemed Friend Yours I received a few days ago pr post.
I could not get as much of the drugs as was mentioned, but
have got all I possibly could in time to send by Gideon Dare
who sat of by water soon after the receipt of the letter I waited
on the post begging him to take a part of the Bark, but he
could not, saying he had more lemons to carry for the Council
of Safety than he at present could take with him.
As to the white lead I cannot at present find any, if I should
hence will send it by the first stage.
Mrs Steward's silk will go down by Joseph Hopkins who is
now in town. I am with respect

[Cook to Council.]

Ship of Warr, Defence at Sea Octob 4th 1776.
Gentn I have the pleasure to inform you by Capt Brown
whom I've sent Prize master of a Snow belonging to Glasgow
from the bay of Hondoras loaded with Mahogany and some
logg wood bound to Cork which we this morning made a
Prize of, at the same time took a sloop from St Augustine
bound to Liverpool, she has no Cargoe on board except a
little Indico. Their papers with a large packett of letters
belonging to the sloop you'll receive pr Mr Walker who I've
made Prize master.
I'm informed by Capt Bolton master of the snow that he
was boarded by a boat belonging to a 22 Gunn ship the first
of this instant, who inquired of him if the Jamaica fleet had
sailed, he likewise says there was another ship of 24 guns
