Hilda Mae Snoops

MSA SC 1545-2927. 1993 by Joseph Sheppard (b. 1930). Presented to the state by the Governor's Mansion Foundation.

Hilda Mae Snoops was the Official Hostess of Government House during the administration of William Donald Schaefer (b. 1921), the fifty-eighth governor of Maryland, serving in office from 1987-1995. In order to reflect the tradition of Government House as a home belonging to the people of Maryland, Mrs. Snoops gave its rooms a comfortable, livable quality. She also acquired several new furnishings, including Waterford crystal chandeliers, and a Knabe piano, from the Baltimore manufacturer, which is pictured in the portrait. In the background is the Victorian-style fountain, featuring Maryland symbols and natural resources, which she presented to the state in 1993.
