Lot 36
Brookeville, Montgomery County, MarylandInformation:
Lot 36 lies on the southeast end of Market Street in Brookeville, Maryland. In 1814, the lot was owned by Richard Thomas Jr., the founder of the town.1 Although Thomas did not live on the lot, there was likely a home on the lot in which one of his children lived by 1813. By that year, Thomas owned four improved lots (lots with buildings on them) in the town, and lot 36 was possibly one of those four lots.2 In 1823, two years after Thomas's death, his daughter Eliza and several family members submitted a Deed of Partition to the Montgomery County Court in which they divided their father's real estate equally amongst themselves. Under this agreement, Eliza took ownership of lot 36.3Kyle Bacon, DAR Research Fellow, 2012
