Lot 1
Brookeville, Montgomery County, MarylandInformation:
Lot 1 lies on the eastern edge of Market Street in Brookeville, Maryland, adjacent to Brookeville founder Richard Thomas Jr.'s grist mill.1 Although Thomas did not live on the lot, there was likely a home on the lot in which one of his children lived by 1813. By that year, Thomas owned four improved lots (lots with buildings on them) in the town, and lot 1 was possibly one of those four lots.2 In 1823, two years after Thomas's death, his daughter Margaret and several family members submitted a Deed of Partition to the Montgomery County Court in which they divided their father's real estate equally amongst themselves. Under this agreement, Margaret took ownership of lot 1.3Kyle Bacon, DAR Research Fellow, 2012
