Presented, December 6, 1979 Donor, Ann Whitridge Niles (widow) Owner, Baltimore City Circuit Court Private Career: Admitted to the bar, 1920 68th President of the Maryland Bar Association, 1961-1962 Practiced in his father’s firm Niles , Wolff, Barton & Morrow, 1920-1938 Founder and co-editor, American Maritime Cases, 1923 Public Service: Member, Judicial Council of Maryland, 1923-1934 President, Baltimore Criminal Justice Commission, 1933-1934 Associate Judge, Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, 1938-1954 8th Chief Judge, Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, 1955-1963 Comments: Nominated by the Democratic State Central Committee and elected to the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City in 1938. Appointed Chief Judge by Governor Theodore R. McKeldin in 1958. He retired in 1962 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.Named one of the pre-eminent Baltimore lawyers and judges of the 20th century. |
