Dennis (cousin) 39th President, Maryland State Bar Association, 1933-1934 Public Service: Private secretary to Governor John Walter Smith, 1900-1904 Member, Maryland House of Delegates, Worcester County (D), 1904 U.S. Attorney, Maryland, 1915-1920 6th Chief Judge, Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, 1928-1944 Comments: Appointed Chief Judge of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City by Governor Albert C. Ritchie. Named one of the pre-eminent Baltimore lawyers and judges of the 20th century. The first Baltimore judge to wear a robe on the bench, in 1928 after his investiture.
