Presented, April 25, 1900 Donor, Sophie Bland Mayo Owner, Baltimore City Circuit Court Private Career: Admitted to the bar, c.1797 Public Service: Member, Maryland House of Delegates, 1808-1810 Maryland State Senator, Western Shore, 1811 Associate Judge, Sixth Judicial District, Baltimore and Harford Counties, 1812 Secretary of the Committee of Safety, War of 1812 Commissioner to South America, 1817 Judge, U.S. District of Maryland, 1818-1824 Chancellor of Maryland, 1824-1846 Comments: Helped to write a new state criminal code which was enacted by the Legislature in November Session, 1809. The painting is on loan to U.S. District Court until 2040 A.D. Named one of the pre-eminent Maryland lawyers and judges of the 18th and 19th centuries. |
