March 1892 Donor, unknown Owner, Library Company of the Baltimore Bar Private Career: Admitted to the bar, 1836 Practiced in Caroline County and the Eastern Shore of Maryland, 1836-1843 Practiced in Baltimore City, 1845-1857 Public Service: Associate Judge, Maryland Court of Appeals, 1857-1867 Chief Judge, Maryland Court of Appeals, 1867-1883 Comments: Named one of the pre-eminent Maryland lawyers and judges of the 18th and 19th centuries. Appointed to the Maryland Court of Appeals by Governor Thomas Watkins Ligon. Arrested June 28, 1862, as a southern sympathizer and imprisoned at Fort McHenry. |
