This is an index of all the officeholders (governors, legislators, and other principal officers of government, 1632- ) listed in the above named source. Index entries give surname, given name, office abbreviation, county or district number (where applicable), and year in which that person's service in the office began. Entries in bold refer to members of the General Assembly from 1635 to 1789 whose biographies were published in A Biographical Dictionary of the Maryland Legislature, 1635-1789 (Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1979-85). For these early legislators, any service in the General Assembly beyond 1789 and all other officeholding appears in the Name Index in the standard form. Little attempt has been made to correct all but the most obvious spelling errors in surnames, and the service associated with any particular name may encompass more than one individual. Readers are cautioned to check all variant spellings of surnames and given names.Abbreviations for offices and counties
