This Victorian Clock was originally from the Court of Appeals Courtroom in the Maryland State House. In 1876-1877, the courtroom, like the rest of the State House, was refurnished to a high-style Victorian appearance. It was during the 1876-7 renovations, or perhaps during repairs made in the late 1880s, that the clock was installed in the Court of Appeals chamber.

The clock is an excellent example of a Vienna regulator, and it is decorated with highly-figured rosewood veneers. Its porcelain dial, hands, and pendulum are all original. The clock was given to the Maryland Commission on Artistic Property by Judge John W. Sause, Jr. Its conservation was supported by a donation to the Friends of the Maryland State Archives in memory of Chief Judge Robert C. Murphy.
