Videotaping Materials in the Collections of the
Maryland
State Archives
Charges for videotaping: The charge for videotaping
materials at the Maryland State Archives is $50.00 per hour or any part
thereof. This hourly fee is also required for
the Archives' specialized staff to pull requested material and set up
prior to videotaping and
for staff time spent monitoring the videotaping session. Cost of publication
permission is not included in this
fee. Payment must be made in full immediately following
the taping by cash, check, or credit card (Visa, Master Card,
Discover).
Videotaping at the State Archives is subject to the following rules
and restrictions:
- Selection of the materials to be taped must be made 10 business
days in advance of the
videotaping.
- Patron must then obtain permission for each item
to be filmed from the Reference
Services.
- It must be understood that any permission includes one-time
rights
only for the specified use. "One time rights" is defined as use of the
image in
one edition of a publication in any single media. Additional use
of the videotaped materials
must be approved by Reference
Services.
- Once permission is obtained, an appointment for the videotaping
must
be made at the convenience of the Archives' staff and subject to the
availability
of facilities.
- A copy of the finished videotape
production must be provided free of
charge to the Maryland State Archives, and will be accessioned into its
Special Collections.
- Lights, copy stands, and any other electrical equipment
required must
be provided by the patron. The Archives will supply only space and
electrical
power.
- A member of the Archives' staff will be present at the time of
the
videotaping. Materials will be handled by the staff member only.
- The staff member may determine that some documents or other
materials
are too fragile to be videotaped. In such cases, the patron will be
responsible
for the cost of photographic duplication of these items. For prices,

consult our photograph price list . Negatives
will remain the property of the Maryland State Archives, and the prints
will become the property of the patron.
- The patron will not permit others to use videotape of materials
from
the Maryland State Archives.
- All responsibility for copyright infringement is assumed by the
patron.
- The Maryland State Archives must be credited in the final
production.
