GAMBLE PHILADELPHIA." (BELOW SCALE IN LEFT BOTTOM CORNER). SCALE OF MILES (40 MILES = 4.6 CM., BELOW TITLE). "ENTERED ACCORDING TO ACT OF CONGRESS IN THE YEAR 1865 BY S. AUGUSTUS MITCHELL, JR. EDITION & STATE INFO : THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION HAS ISSUES DATED 1865, 1870 AND 1878 IN ITS POSSESSION AND HAS COPIES OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS ISSUES FOR 1866, 1867, 1869, AND 1873. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME BASIC PLATE, BUT ADDITIONS TO THE ROAD SYSTEM, ADDITIONS TO RAILROADS AND OF NEW COUNTIES SUCH AS GARRETT AND WICOMOCO SHOW THAT THE MAP WAS UPDATED.
1865 ISSUE - THE DECORATIVE BORDER HAS TANGLED WIDE RIBBON IN THE CORNERS AND A FLORAL DESIGN IN THE INTERVENING AREA. THE MAP # "27." IS LEFT OF THE TITLE. THE DATE "...1865..." IS IN THE IMPRINT BELOW THE BORDER. NO WICOMOCO COUNTY IS SHOWN, SINCE IT WASN'T FORMED UNTIL 1868. SEE MAP # 365G6.

1873 ISSUE - HAS NO MAP # AND IS DATED 1872. THE IMPRINT IS CHANGED TO "ENTERED...1872... IN THE OFFICE OF THE LIBRARIAN OF CONGRESS AT WASHINGTON". GARRETT COUNTY IS SHOWN. IT WAS FORMED IN DEC., 1872. THE "PHILADa.-WILMn. AND BALTIMORE R.R." HAS BEEN ADDED, AS HAS THE "BALTIMORE AND OHIO R.R.", THE "DELAWARE R.R." AND THE "MARYLAND & DEL. R.R." NUMEROUS ROADS HAVE BEEN ADDED. SEE MAP # 373G3.
1878 ISSUE - THE DECORATIVE BORDER IS THE SAME AS THE 1870 ISSUE, EXCEPT THAT IT IS UPSIDE DOWN, COMPARED WITH THE 1870 ISSUE. THUS, MANY OF THE LEAVES POINT DOWNWARD. THE MAP IS DATED 1878. PAGE # "45" HAS BEEN ADDED AT THE RIGHT TOP MARGIN OF THE PAGE, ABOVE THE MAP OF NEW JERSEY. ADDITIONAL ROADS HAVE BEEN ADDED ACROSS THE STATE. SEE MAP # 378G5.
