THE LAND AREAS ON THIS CHART SHOW ROADS, CANALS, RAILROADS, CITIES AND TOWNS. HUNTINGFIELD POINT IS INDICATED ON THE CHART. PUBLISHED IN 1862, THIS CHART WOULD HAVE BEEN USED BY BRITISH SHIPS DURING THE LAST YEARS OF THE U.S. CIVIL WAR. THE CHART WAS MODIFIED WITH BOTH MAJOR AND MINOR MODIFICATIONS AND OTHER STATES WERE ISSUED AT LEAST THROUGH MARCH OF 1885. HUNTINGFIELD HAS A COPY OF THE 1885 ISSUE AS WELL AS THE ONE DESCRIBED HEREIN. THE MORE RECENT ISSUE SHOWS MAJOR CORRECTIONS THROUGH APRIL, 1871 AND MINOR ONES THROUGH 1885. OTHER LATER RELEASES WERE PROBABLY ALSO MADE.

EDITION & STATE INFO : THIS CHART HAD A LONG LIFE. ALTHOUGH FIRST RELEASED IN 1862, WE KNOW OF ISSUES AT LEAST THROUGH MARCH OF 1885. THE MAGNETIC VARIATION DATA AND OTHER DATA WAS CONTINUALLY UPDATED. IT IS LIKELY THAT LATER ISSUES WERE ALSO MADE. FOR THE 1885 CHART, SEE CHART # 385C5.
HFC OWNERSHIP DATA : THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION HAS A GOOD COPY OF THIS CHART WITH TEARS THAT HAVE BEEN REPAIRED ON THE RIGHT AND TOP SIDES, BOTH OF WHICH EXTEND INTO THE ENGRAVING. IT HAS AN ACQ. # OF H026-HGD AND A MDHR # OF MSA SC1399-662. THE COLLECTION ALSO HAS A GOOD BLACK AND WHITE COPY OF THE ISSUE OF 1885 WITH NO TEARS AND FULL MARGINS. IT HAS AN ACQ. # OF B015-HGD AND A MDHR # OF MSA SC1399-661.
