MAP 1 SHOWS THE CHESAPEAKE BAY FROM THE CHOPTANK RIVER TO THE HEAD OF THE BAY WITHOUT SHOALS OR SOUNDINGS. MAP 3 SHOWS THE ENTIRE CHESAPEAKE BAY ON A SMALLER SCALE.
THIS ITEM IS NOTABLE ONLY FOR THE LARGE NUMBER OF ERRORS IN ITS PLACENAMES. FOR EXAMPLE, IN KENT COUNTY ALONE, ROCK HALL IS SPELLED AS ROCK HILL. HUNTINGFIELD PT. IS SPELLED HUNTINGFORD. THIS IS FAIRLY TYPICAL OF MAPS OF THE CIVIL WAR AREA THAT WERE THROWN TOGETHER QUICKLY IN ORDER TO GET ON THE MARKET WITHOUT DELAY. THE COPYISTS WERE NOT PARTICULARLY CAREFUL IN THEIR WORK.
