DESCRIPTION : THIS PANORAMIC VIEW OF THE SEAT OF WAR SHOWS MOST OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY FROM BALTIMORE TO HARPERS FERRY AND SOUTH TO NORFOLK. IT SHOWS ROADS AND RAILROADS GRAPHICALLY. THE VIEW IS SHADED IN SUCH A WAY AS TO GIVE A THREE DIMENSIONAL EFFECT SHOWING THE DRAINAGE AREAS OF THE TRIBUTARIES OF THE CHESAPEAKE BAY. THE VIEW IS ONE OF RELATIVELY FEW OF THE AREA ORIENTED WITH SOUTH AT THE TOP. STEPHENSON GIVES THE VIEW A TENTATIVE DATE OF 1861. WRITER HAS NOT YET BEEN ABLE TO ASCERTAIN THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF ITS PUBLICATION, ALTHOUGH IT IS BELIEVED TO HAVE BEEN RELEASED AS A SEPARATE RATHER THAN INCLUDED IN AN ATLAS.
