CORNER OF MARYLAND DUE EAST TO HANCOCK, AND FROM THENCE S. 65o E TO THE CHESAPEAKE BAY AT THE MOUTH OF THE PATAPSCO RIVER." (BELOW PRIOR SECTION). TABLE WITH COLOR AND SYMBOL CODES TO 24 GEOLOGICAL TYPE FORMATIONS WITH PENNSLVANIA AND NEW YORK NAMES, WHERE THEY WERE AVAILABLE (TOP RIGHT SIDE). SCALE OF 30 MILES (BELOW PRIOR TABLE). LONGITUDE IS FROM WASHINGTON (TOP AND BOTTOM BORDERS). LATITUDE IS SHOWN (EAST AND WEST BORDERS).
THE MAP IS 37 X 64.8 CM. AND USES AS A BASE A MAP COMPILED BY AUGUST FAUL. THE LITHOGRAPH WAS DONE BY A. HOEN & CO. OF BALTIMORE. IT EMPLOYS TWENTY FOUR COLORS AND PATTERNS, PRINTED FROM STONE, TO REPRESENT THE GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS OF THE STATE. THE RIVERS AND STREAMS, WHILE CLEARLY DRAWN, ARE NOT ALWAYS TOTALLY ACCURATE. THE MAP CONTAINS THREE PROFILE INSETS SHOWING THE GEOGRAPHICAL STRUCTURE OF THE AREAS DEPICTED.
THIS MAP WAS ACTUALLY PUBLISHED IN 1860 TO ACCOMPANY THE FIRST REPORT BY TYSON, AGRICULTURAL-CHEMIST OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND. A COPY IS IN THE PEABODY IN BALTIMORE.

ANOTHER ED. - (1873) - THIS MAP IS ENTITLED "MAP OF MARYLAND AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, COLORED TO ILLUSTRATE THE GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS BY PHILIP T. TYSON". IT APPEARED ON PAGES 14 AND 15 OF MARTENET, WALLING AND GRAY'S NEW TOPOGRAPHICAL ATLAS OF THE STATE OF MARYLAND AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA..., BALTIMORE: STEDMAN, BROWN, & LYON, 1873. THE BASIC TYSON DATA HAS BEEN SUPERIMPOSED ON A DIFFERENT BASE MAP. THIS MAP HAS A HEADING "EXPLANATION OF COLORS" OVER THE COLOR KEYS IN THE BLANK DELAWARE AREA. THE SCALE OF MILES BELOW THE COLOR KEYS HAS BEEN DELETED. SEE MAP # 373T5.
