GRISWOLD, 1857 AND IN ANOTHER EDITION OF THE SAME ATLAS ENTITLED THE WORLD IN MINIATURE... TO WHICH IS PREFIXED AN IMPORTANT TREATISE ON PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY..., UNIVERSAL, 142 PP., 53 MAPS, 12o, NEW ORLEANS: BLOOMFIELD & STEEL, 1861. THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE VOLUME WAS PUBLISHED IN A SECOND ISSUE IN 1857 IN NEW YORK BY MORSE AND GASTON. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE BOOK WAS PRINTED BY C.S. ALVORD INSTEAD OF E.O. JENKINS, PLUS SOME ADDITIONAL EXPLANATIONS. THE MAP APPARENTLY WAS UNCHANGED IN ALL THE VARIOUS PUBLICATIONS.

LONGITUDE IS MEASURED WEST FROM GREENWICH IN THE BOTTOM MARGIN AND WEST AND EAST FROM WASHINGTON IN THE TOP MARGIN.

COLBY WAS BORN IN 1830 AND DIED IN 1866. HE WAS THE EDITOR OF MORSE'S GENERAL ATLAS OF THE WORLD.

DATA IS FROM PHILLIPS ATLASES AND FROM TOOLEY'S DICTIONARY.
