LONGITUDE AND LATITUDE (NOT SHOWN).
GUTHORN, IN HIS ESSAY JOHN HILLS, ASSISTANT ENGINEER, INDICATES THAT JOHN HILLS MAY HAVE DRAFTED THIS MAP FROM MAPS AND DATA SUPPLIED BY OTHERS OR FROM PERSONAL OBSERVATION. CONSEQUENTLY, ATTRIBUTION OF THE WORK TO HILLS IS SOMEWHAT IN QUESTION.
VERNER STATES THAT A PEN & INK MANUSCRIPT PLAN IN WATERCOLOR SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO THIS PRINTED ONE, BUT WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TITLE IS IN THE FADEN COLLECTION IN THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS (G3884.Y6S3.P51 FADEN 91). IT MEASURES 35 3/4 X 23 1/4" AND IS ENTITLED "PLAN OF YORKTOWN AND GLOCESTER IN VIRGINIA SHEWING THE WORKS CONSTRUCTED FOR THE DEFENSE OF THOSE POSTS BY THE Rt. HONble. LIEUT. GENERAL EARL CORNWALLIS WITH THE ATTACKS OF THE COMBINED ARMY OF FRENCH AND REBELS UNDER THE COMMAND OF THE GENERAL COUNT DE ROCHAMBAUD AND WASHINGTON, WHICH CAPITULATED OCTOBER 1781.
