DESCRIPTION : THIS MANUSCRIPT MAP WAS DONE BY
MICHEL CAPITAINE DU CHESNOY, AIDE OF MAJOR GENERAL MARQUIS DE LA
FAYETTE. THE MAP IS LOCATED IN THE ARCHIVES DES CARTES OF THE
DEPOT DE LA GUERRE IN PARIS. THE MAP SHOWS WIDTH OF THE SEVERN
RIVER FROM GREENBURY POINT TO HORN POINT AND FROM BEEMANS POINT TO
WIND MILL. IT SHOWS THE WIDTH OF CARROL'S CREEK FROM WIND MILL
ACROSS THE MOUTH OF THE CREEK. ALSO LOCATED IS THE POSITION OF THE
ENCAMPMENT OF LA FAYETTE'S LIGHT TROOPS IN 1781 PRIOR TO OPENING
THE CAMPAIGN AT YORKTOWN. A DETAIL OF THE LAYOUT OF STREETS AND
PRINCIPAL BUILDINGS IS DEPICTED FOR THE TOWN OF ANNAPOLIS. THE MAP
IS ORIENTED WITH SOUTHEAST AT THE TOP. A PHOTOCOPY OF THE
MANUSCRIPT MAP IS AT THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS AND THE HUNTINGFIELD
COLLECTION HAS A COPY OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS COPY. THIS MAP IN
COLOR WAS USED AS THE BACKPAGE OF A BROCHURE ON THE BICENTENNIAL
CELEBRATIONS IN ANNAPOLIS FROM DECEMBER 23, 1983 TO JANUARY 14,
1984. THE MAP IS PREDOMINENTLY OF A GREENISH CAST, WITH PORTIONS
OF THE CITY OF ANNAPOLIS SHOWN IN RED.
