DESCRIPTION : THIS MAP WAS PUBLISHED IN THE POLITICAL MAGAZINE VOL. 2 IN NOVEMBER, 1781, OPPOSITE PAGE 624. VERNER INDICATES THAT IT WAS ALSO ISSUED SEPARATELY. IT WAS THE FIRST MAP TO ILLUSTRATE THE BATTLE OF CHESAPEAKE CAPES. IT SHOWS CORWALLIS' ENTRENCHMENTS AND THE "FRENCH FLEET AT ANCHOR ON SEPTEMBER 5th IN THE MORNING." THE MAP WAS ENGRAVED BY JOHN LODGE.

EDITION & STATE INFO : ONLY A SINGLE STATE, AS DESCRIBED, IS KNOWN TO THE WRITER AT THIS TIME. IT WAS PUBLISHED IN THE POLITICAL MAGAZINE IN NOVEMBER, 1781 AND ACCORDING TO VERNER WAS ALSO ISSUED AS A SEPARATE.

HFC OWNERSHIP DATA : THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION HAS A GOOD BLACK AND WHITE COPY OF THIS MAP WITH NO WATERMARK ON RELATIVELY LIGHT PAPER. IT HAS ONE WEAK SPOT ON ITS SURFACE AND THE LEFT MARGIN HAS A BROWN AREA THAT AT ONE TIME WAS TAPED. IT IS A GOOD STRONG IMPRESSION. IT HAS AN ACQ. # OF N017-UUG AND A MDHR # OF MSA SC1399-467.
