DESCRIPTION : THIS MAP COVERS FROM NIAGARA
FALLS TO CAPE FEAR AND FROM DELAWARE BAY TO THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER
AND SHOWS THE FULL CHESAPEAKE BAY AND ALL OF MARYLAND. IT APPEARED
IN THE NEW AND COMPLETE HISTORY OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE IN
AMERICA, VOL. III OF 3, LONDON,1756, OPPOSITE P. 163. COPIES
OF THE WORK ARE IN THE HARVARD COLLEGE LIBRARY AND IN THE JOHN
CARTER BROWN LIBRARY. A MANUSCRIPT NOTE IN THE HARVARD COPY
INDICATES THAT THIS WAS PUBLISHED IN NUMBERS OF 24 PAGES EACH,
WITHOUT TITLE PAGE. THE WORK WAS LEFT IN AN INCOMPLETE STATE.
SABIN SAYS THAT IT ENDS ABRUPTLY AT PAGE 272 OF VOLUME 3.
CUMMING STATES THAT THE MAP IS DERIVED FROM MITCHELL'S 1755 MAP
(SEE MAP # 255M5), WITH NUMEROUS LEGENDS AND TOPOGRAPHICAL DETAILS
OMITTED. VERNER DISMISSES THE MAP AS "OF NO PARTICULAR
SIGNIFICANCE". MARYLAND IS ON SUCH A SMALL SCALE AS TO ADD NOTHING
EITHER GEOGRAPHICALLY OR IN PLACE NAMES TO EARLIER MAPS.
