THE MAP INDICATES THAT IT WAS UNDERTAKEN WITH "THE APPROBATION OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE THE LORDS COMMISSIONERS OF TRADE AND PLANTATIONS; AND GREAT CARE HAS BEEN TAKEN BY COMPARING ALL THE MAPS, CHARTS, AND OBSERVATIONS THAT COULD BE FOUND, ESPECIALLY THE AUTHENTICK RECORDS & ACTUAL SURVEYS TRANSMITTED TO THEIR LORDSHIPS BY THE GOVERNORS OF THE BRITISH PLANTATIONS AND OTHERS, TO CORRECT THE MANY ERRORS COMMITTED IN FORMER MAPS." HOWEVER, IT IS KNOWN THAT THERE WERE FEW OFFICIAL COLONY MAPS OF ACCURACY DONE BY THE PROPRIETORS OF THE COLONIES UNTIL ALMOST 20 YEARS FROM THE PUBLICATION OF POPPLE'S MAP. LOWERY NOTES A REVIEW BY THE FRENCH COMMISSARIES IN 1755 QUESTIONING WHETHER POPPLE'S MAP WAS EVER APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF TRADE AND QUESTIONING ITS ACCURACY.
