THE MAP EXTENDS INTO THE LONGITUDE AND LATITUDE BORDERS ON THE RIGHT AND BOTTOM. LONGITUDE (POSSIBLY EAST FROM FERRO OR PARIS, TOP AND BOTTOM BORDERS). LATITUDE (RIGHT AND LEFT BORDERS).
WHILE THE MAP IS MARKED "TOME IV" "289", PHILLIPS LISTS THIS MAP AS VOLUME 5, PAGE 289.
DATA IS FROM PHILLIPS ATLASES # 3447 AND FROM OBSERVATION OF THE COPIES IN THE HUNTINGFIELD COLLECTION.
EDITION & STATE INFO : THERE ARE TWO EDITIONS OF THIS MAP. THE FIRST EDITION WAS IN 1683. IT WAS REENGRAVED IN A SLIGHTLY SMALLER VERSION FOR THE 1686 ATLAS AND THE SAME PLATE IS REUSED IN A 1719 ATLAS. NO DIFFERENCES IN THE 1686 AND 1719 PLATES HAVE BEEN OBSERVED EXCEPT FOR PLATE WEAR.
ED. 1 - (1683) - THIS MAP IS 14.8 CM HIGH, SLIGHTLY LARGER IN HEIGHT THAN ED. 2 AND 10.2 CM WIDE, BETWEEN THE NEAT LINES. IT IS ON A PAGE IN WHICH THE MAP AND WRITTEN TEXT MEASURE 18 X 11 CM. COPIES OF THE ATLAS ARE IN THE LC, JCB, CLEMENTS, NYPL, AND YALE. THIS IS THE MAP DESCRIBED HEREIN.
ED. 2 - ISSUE 1 - (1686) - THIS EDITION IS SIMILAR TO THE FIRST EDITION BUT IS FROM A PLATE SLIGHTLY SMALLER IN HEIGHT AND SLIGHTLY WIDER. THIS STATE APPEARED IN THE 1686 ED. OF DESCRIPTION DE L'UNIVERS, PUBLISHED BY JEAN DAVID ZUMMER. A COPY OF THE BOOK IS IN THE JCB LIBRARY. SEE MAP # 186M5.
