Down the Rabbit Hole: About this Project

Down the Rabbit Hole is primarily a resource for volunteers of the Maryland State Archives Research Department to publish self-authored stories about the many subjects they have explored. Upon finding and entering demographic data such as an individual's name, race, and gender, financial or domestic situation (a high personal estate value for a formerly enslaved person or a multiracial household where both black and white children are apparently reared, for instance), the volunteer's curiosity was piqued and they decided to investigate further. This site allows many generous contributors of their time and talents to publicly share some of the discoveries which have made history exciting and alive for them with us. By providing this site, we encourage you to join us, too. If you have been a volunteer for the Archives either onsite or remotely and recall a discovery you would like to share on Down the Rabbit Hole, please send in a submission. If you have not been a volunteer yet, but would like to be, please contact us so that you can start digging. Email us at jen.abbott@maryland.gov
