We are very grateful to our many generous donors who have made it possible for the Friends to acquire some extraordinarily important documents and images to the Archives' special collections. These include:
George Washington’s personal copy of the speech he gave on December 23, 1783 in the Old Senate Chamber resigning his commission as commander-in-chief of the Continental Army.
Generous donations are making it possible to have a permanent case built for the document to be on display in the rotunda of the State House. This will be complete and unveiled as part of the reopening of the Old Senate Chamber in December 2014.
Letter from Admiral Sir Pulteney Malcolm, captain of the British ship Royal Oak, to his wife describing the British retreat from Baltimore in 1814.
Two portraits of Leonard Calvert, first governor of Maryland. Gifts included both acquisition and conservation and both paintings are now on display in the State House.
Memorial to Thurgood Marshall in BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport.
Early 1800s view of Dartmoor Prison by prisoner J. I. Taylor. This will enhance our research into the soldiers and sailors who were imprisoned there during the War of 1812.
