The Maryland State Archives periodically offers workshops on how to research family history. Designed to introduce people to the many different kinds of records available at the Archives and elsewhere and how to use them to reconstruct a family tree, the workshops are useful for both beginners in genealogy and as a refresher for more experienced researchers.

The Maryland State Archives has the most complete collection of historical documents of any of the 13 original colonies. Included in its holdings are colonial and state records dating back to the founding of the colony in 1634, county probate, land and court records, church records and many other records relevant to genealogical research.

The Maryland State Archives is the historical agency for Maryland and serves as the central depository for government records of permanent value. Its public search room is open Tuesday - Friday from 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - noon and 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. There are professional archivists on duty to assist researchers.
