Our Families

When people talk about their "heritage," they often mean their own family history, their genealogy. The Archives is a rich source of genealogical records for anyone with Maryland roots. Land, probate, census, church, and immigration records are just some of the sources that family historians use to discover their ancestors. Regular workshops on different aspects of genealogical research help these historians to understand and use the records available to them. In addition to its state records, the Archives holds large collections of county and local records, many also dating back to the earliest days of the colony.
