James Hall

Biography:

James Hall was an enslaved man who belonged to Frederick Grammar of Anne Arundel County. James Hall escaped from Frederick Grammar’s home near Sandy Point between the Severn River and Magothy River. James fled with another enslaved man James Stewart who also belonged to Grammar. James Hall was killed in the attack on Fort Bowyer. In 1828, the executors of Frederick Grammar submitted a claim to the Board of Commissioners regarding the escape of James Hall and James Steward. The executors wanted to be compensated for the loss of James Hall.
