Biography:

                Isaac S. Jones was a free black from Kent County and a trustee to Joshua Chapel.1 Brother to Marshall J. Jones (also a trustee to Joshua Chapel), Isaac was born in 1832.2

               In 1860, Isaac applied for his certificate of freedom, which described him as five feet and seven inches tall with light complexion and a small scar on his upper lip.3 He married Eliza Jones, born about 1842, on May 6, 1868 by Reverend Joseph Elbert.4 Reverend Joseph Elbert was a Methodist Episcopal Minister and lived next to Samuel Gleaves just north of Corktown on the 1877 map.5 In 1870, Isaac S. Jones was considered a free laborer and U.S citizen with $200 real estate and $100 personal estate.6

               At this point, there is no record of when Isaac S. Jones’s died.
