Biography:

Violetta Van Horn was born August 8, 1769 in New Jersey to Phillip Van Horn and his wife Elizabeth French. Violetta married Nathaniel Chapman Weems and relocated to Prince George's County, MD. The Weems' lived at Billingsley near Upper Marlboro, MD and had nine children: .

Violetta Weems submitted a claim for the loss of a negro man, Scipio Henson who was 30 years of age. Dr. William Beanes gave a deposition that he saw Scipio Henson and his wife on board a British Vessel, operated by Captain Montague, while he was a prisoner. 

In 1828, Weems sold eight of her slaves. She sold her slaves Esther, Cassy, Cassnova, Mary, and Charles to Cornelia Weems. Chapman, Eliza, and Jane were sold to Natalie Weems.
