Maryland State Colonization Society Emigrant to Liberia, Caroline County, 1832

Biography:

Laura (or Louisa) Jane Sharpe was a freeborn resident of Caroline County.1 She emigrated to Liberia in 1832, possibly as housekeeper to Stepney Harper and his family.2 She sailed from Baltimore to Liberia with the Harpers on the ship Lafayette on December 7 or 9, arriving in Monrovia, Liberia on February 7, 1833.3 She settled in Caldwell, Liberia, and was still living there as of 1843.4
