Biography:

John K. Jackson was born around 1773.1 He married Mary Jarboe on January 7, 1811.2 Although Jackson did not own any slaves in 1810, he owned four slaves in 1813: twenty-five-year-old Joe, twenty-seven-year-old Mary, two-year-old Mary, and five-year-old Dick.3 Jackson's farm stood on Cedar Point, near the mouth of the Patuxent River.4

Jackson's slaves Ralph Jackson and Joseph escaped to British forces in August 1813 and May 1814, respectively.5 John K. Jackson, Charles John Carroll, and Nicholas Sewell later boarded the San Domingo in an attempt to retrieve their slaves, but did not succeed.6

Jackson owned twelve slaves in 1820,7 and eight in 1831: John, age two; Sam, age four; Rachael, age six; Bob, age ten; Angess, also ten; Anny, age thirty-eight; Mary, age fifty; and Suck, age sixty-five.8 He was sick when he made his will in May of that year, and had passed away by August 1835. Jackson bequeathed his estate to his wife Mary, and to their children, Joseph, Elizabeth C. (b. 1812), Mary Ariminta (b. 1813), Ann Rebecca (b. 1818), Mary (b. 1824), and Johanna.9
