MSA SC 5496-050656
War of 1812 Claimant, Somerset County, Maryland

Biography:

Isaac Beachamp was the son of Thomas and Jane Beauchamp, and had one brother, Thomas George.1 In 1777, his grandfather, also named Isaac, bequeathed him the family plantation, which he received after the death of his grandmother and father.2

On October 15, 1814, Isaac's slave Mentor Beauchamp escaped to the British forces at Tangier Sound.3 Three of his father's slaves, Elijah Beauchamp, Stephen Beauchamp and Jack Teagle, also escaped the same day.

Isaac Beauchamp was still living in 1840, when he had twenty-three slaves working on his farm.5 When he died in 1848, he left his estate to his children, George Henry James, Samuel Outerbridge, Isaac Thomas, and Mary Ann. He identified their mother as Elizabeth Summers.6
