Biography:

On September 18, 1830, a warrant was issued to search the house of Theoplelus McDaniel, a free black residing in Prince George's County.  According to Smallwood, Sarah fled the residence of Thomas W. Reeves, a neighbor of Smallwood's in Charles County who, in 1830, owned about four slaves. Richard L. Smallwood, a slave owner in the Third District of Charles County, suspected that McDaniel was hiding Smallwood's runaway slave, Sarah, in his residence in Prince George's County.
