Biography:
Gideon Gross was sentenced to seven years in the Maryland Penitentiary for assisting the slaves of W.P. Mills to run away. Though Gross was born in Talbot County, he lived in Baltimore City at the time of his conviction, working as a laborer. At the age of fifty, Gross was sentenced on October 27, 1845 to serve until August 8, 1852 for helping the four slaves. Gross died of dropsy in the penitentiary on November 26, 1849.
