Biography:

Charles Wilkins successfully escaped from Cecil County, Maryland, at the age of three with both of his parents, James Andy Wilkins and Lucinda Wilkins, in 1859.  He and his mother were owned by George Ford, while his father's master was George Biddle, also of Cecil County.  Though little information has been recovered regarding his life after his escape, Wilkins is known to have reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his parents, and was aided there by individuals connected to the Underground Railroad.
