Biography:

At the age of twenty-five, Ansal Cannon successfully escaped from Dorchester County, Maryland with fellow slave John Pinket.  Before he escaped, Cannon was owned by Kitty Cannon, a widow who owned nine other slaves.  Though little has yet been recovered about his life after escape, Cannon is known to have reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
