Fled from Slavery, Cecil County, Maryland 1858
Biography:
In 1858 at the age of twenty-one, George Robinson fled slavery because he did not want to be sold. He fled his owner Samuel Smith, a farmer located in Cecil County, whom Robinson described as a "pretty cross and an ill man." Smith lived near Elkton, Maryland with his wife, Mary, and six children. Though little has yet been recovered about his life after escape, Robinson reached to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on his journey to Canada and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
