Biography:

Henry Thompson successfully escaped from Kent County, Maryland, in 1858 at the age of twenty-eight.  His owner was Dennis Mannard of Johnsonville.  Though little information has been recovered regarding his life after his escape, Thompson is known to have reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on his way to Canada, where he met fellow fugitive George Russell.  He was aided in Philadelphia by individuals connected to the Underground Railroad.
