Biography:
At the age of twenty-six, Samuel Benton fled Kent County, Maryland
in 1857 with fellow slaves John
Alexander, James
Henry, and Samuel
Turner. Benton
was previously owned by William Campbell. Though little has yet
been
recovered about his life after escape, Benton reached Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the
Underground
Railroad.
