Biography:
Jane Davis successfully escaped from Dorchester County, Maryland in 1857 to avoid the auction block. Davis was owned by Roger McZant in the New Market District of the Eastern Shore. She was the mother of twelve children, four of whom were previously sold into the Deep South. Though little has yet been recovered about her life after escape, Davis reached Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and was aided there by individuals connected with the Underground Railroad.
